October 29, 2017 – Prayer Vigil on the Milford Oval

Sunday, October 29th at 1pm

Join local pastors as we pray for ALL those who are affected by the disease of addiction. Prayers will be offered for everyone, including those with the disease, their children and families, first responders, educators, community leaders, etc.  The vigil will be held on the Milford Oval on Sunday, October 29th at 1pm.


Red Ribbon Community Celebration Art Show – Entries must be received by October 24th

Saturday, October 28th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Red Ribbon Campaign is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign program in the nation, reaching millions of young people during Red Ribbon Week, October 23 – 31, each year.  Red Ribbon Week is celebrated in schools and communities across America.  Each year, the National Family Partnership holds a contest to design the Red Ribbon Week Campaign theme for the following year.  CAST is encouraging youth of all ages in schools across Souhegan Valley to participate in the 2018 Youth Red Ribbon Week Theme Contest.  All entries will be displayed at the Community Celebration at Boys & Girls Club on Saturday, October 28th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm.  Entries must be received at Souhegan Valley Boys & Girls Club no later than October 24, 2017 at 5pm.   See the Art Show Flyer for details.

October 28, 2017 – Red Ribbon Week Community Celebration – Youth & Family Agency Vendors Wanted

Saturday, October 28th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Are you a youth or family serving organization?  Do you want to showcase your gift to the community?  If you answered yes to either of these questions, please join us for our Red Ribbon Week Community Celebration.  It is FREE to all vendors! All you need to do is offer a free, family friendly activity at the event.  Help us create awareness about all the positive opportunities for young people and families in Souhegan Valley! The event will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley, 56 Mont Vernon Street, Milford NH on Saturday, October 28th from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. Mock Teenage Bedroom - “Risky Business” presentation at Hollis Brookline High School Auditorium.

Walk through a staged teenage bedroom full of alcohol and drug paraphernalia, learn how to identify the warning signs of teen substance.  The walk through will be followed by an interactive presentation referencing local drug and alcohol trends, what to look for, and effective techniques for communicating with teens.  This FREE program is for adults age 21 and older.  Sponsored by HBHS PTSA, Hollis Brookline Rotary and Community Action for Safe Teens, a committee of Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley.  Questions? Community Action for Safe Teens (CAST) Youth Empowerment Club members participated in the NH Teen Institute Leaders In Prevention (LIP) Retreat


Community Action for Safe Teens (CAST) Youth Empowerment Club members recently participated in the NH Teen Institute Leaders In Prevention (LIP) Retreat for middle school students. CAST, a committee of the Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Valley, recently developed a CAST Youth Empowerment Club and sent middle school students representing Amherst, Hollis/Brookline and Milford to the LIP Retreat to learn about leadership, advocacy and community building skills. These students are very excited to use the skills they learned to strengthen the Youth Led Prevention Network among their peers as well as the larger community. The CAST Youth Empowerment Club focuses on Leadership, Advocacy,and Community Service.

Souhegan Valley Youth participate in CAST Media Literacy Project.

The following videos were created under the professional guidance of Media Power Youth by middle and high school students in Souhegan Valley. Media Power Youth provides evidence based programming empowering “youth to lead healthy, safe lives through smart use of media.” Funding for this Community Action for Safe Teens project was provided by Milford Hospital Association and Hollis/Brookline Rotary Club. Life of an Athlete

Student athlete leaders from Hollis/Brookline, Milford and Souhegan High Schools come together and encourage schools and communities to incorporate the Life of an Athlete program into their athletics. This comprehensive, proactive approach is a sure way to increase positive lifestyle choices for all members of the community.

Connective Parenting

Bonnie Harris, M.S.Ed. is the director of Connective Parenting. Bonnie has designed and taught parenting workshops and counseled parents for twenty years. 

Connective Parenting is dedicated to guiding parents in the discovery of why both they and their children behave and respond the way they do. It is based on the principle that the child wants to do what is right, wants to cooperate, wants to succeed and only gets off track when an obstacle derails him. Bonnie often offers Parenting Talks and Courses locally through The River Center.

The River Center

The River Center serves as a one-stop clearinghouse for community resources and connections essential to the quality of life for people of all ages and abilities in the eastern Monadnock region. Its programs and services are free to all so that no one is excluded because of financial need.
